Daisy grew up beneath the western gaze of Whiteface Mountain in the Adirondacks, in the small hamlet of Bloomingdale, at the turn of the 20th century. She experienced great love and great loss over her 57 years of life. Daisy became a trusted midwife by 1920, worked in a bean cannery during the Great Depression, and supported the boys overseas during World War II by becoming a drill press operator at an airplane factory. But none of that adequately describes her life, her loves, her triumphs, or her heartaches over five decades. Ebenezer and Phebe Goodell Doty and their descendants are the focus of this effort. Ebenezer was the son of Amaziah and Bethiah Hamlin Doty, who were the first to begin the family's westward migration from Massachusetts to Vermont where Ebenezer was born in 1789. Next, north and west into New York and Ohio. Ebenezer's service in the War of l812 entitled him to bounty land in Illinois. In 1852 Ebenezer and several of his children began the first of two trips by wagon train from Knox County, Illinois to San Jose, California, where Ebenezer died January 1st, 1860. Three of Ebenezer's sons later moved south to Santa Barbara County, California

Some characters are real with fictitious names; some characters are fictitious with names of real people. I played with Sandra Rae and Mickey Wells, and Barbara Ann Bennington. Wendell Patterson took me for a short ride on his two-wheeler bicycle when I was four. Lucille Patterson Mauk was my mom’s best friend since early childhood.
